My Chemical Romance have paid tribute to their former bandmate Bob Bryar at a recent gig in his hometown of Chicago.

Bryar and served as the emo band’s longest-tenured drummer, performing with them from 2004 until his departure in 2010. He passed away last year, aged 44, and when news of his death broke, the band shared a statement hailing his “important” role in their history.

His contributions can be heard on My Chemical Romance’s seminal 2006 album ‘The Black Parade’, the band’s most commercially and critically successful record. It debuted at number two in the United States on the Billboard 200, as well as on the UK Albums Chart.

They’ve continued to pay homage to him on their ongoing ‘Long Live The Black Parade’ North American tour, which kicked off last month after selling out within hours. Last night, they projected an image of Bryar on screen while performing at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

Elsewhere at the gig, Devo acted as support, and the band were joined by Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan to cover their 1995 track ‘Bullet with Butterfly Wings’. You can check out the full setlist and fan-shot footage below.

Earlier this month, the band announced two shows planned at London’s Wembley Stadium, with the dates seeing them head to the capital on July 10 and 11 next year.

Gerard Way and co. started teasing the news with a video clip depicting an old-school TV game show.  Within hours of tickets going live, fans took to social media to lament to scramble for tickets the two upcoming events.

My Chemical Romance last performed in the UK as part of their reunion tour in 2022, with dates taking place in Milton Keynes, Cornwall, Dublin, Warrington, Cardiff and Glasgow.

At their latest run of gigs, the band are playing their 2006 third album ‘The Black Parade’ in full along with rarities from that era and some hits. They’ve also used the US dates to debut an unreleased song titled ‘War Beneath The Rain’, and treat fans to a surprise cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Bullet With Butterfly Wings’.

Support has been coming from a variety of different hand-selected artists, including Violent Femmes, 100 Gecs, Wallows, Garbage, Death Cab For Cutie and Thursday, Alice Cooper, Pixies, IDLES and Evanescence.

As well as playing live, MCR also released a deluxe 21st anniversary reissue of their second album ‘Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge’ in June.
