You Am I have been revealed as the inductee act for the ARIA Hall Of Fame this year. The veteran Australian rock band will head into the hall this November, as part of the ARIA Awards ceremony at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney on Wednesday, November 19th. The line-up being inducted is the band’s current one, which has remained unchanged for over 25 years: Founding member Tim Rogers on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Davey Lane on lead guitar and keyboards, Andy Kent on bass and Russell “Rusty” Hopkinson on drums.
“Australia has witnessed You Am I shape the course of modern rock music with their unmistakable sound, honed by live shows across the length and breadth of the country and beyond,” said Annabelle Herd – the CEO of ARIA – in a press statement announcing the induction. “With 10 ARIA Awards, multiple chart-topping albums, and a legacy that has inspired countless musicians, You Am I is one of the finest live acts this country has produced, fuelled in equal parts by the explosive musical chemistry between the band and Tim Rogers’ era-defining songwriting.”
You Am I – ‘Berlin Chair’
Herd went on to note that it was You Am I’s songbook that made them “a band for the ages”. “Tim Rogers’ ability to nail a universal feeling with a couple of seemingly throwaway lines, through that uniquely Australian lens, is one of the reasons that You Am I’s music [is] held so close to fans’ hearts,” she said. “We are thrilled to be welcoming one of Australia’s most influential and enduring bands into the ARIA Hall of Fame.”
“We are bemused, flattered and surprised to be asked to sit at the parents’ table,” said Rogers in his own statement. “The artists in the Hall have had musical adventures of grandeur and righteous acclaim. Our trail of desperation seems more haphazard and with less dazzle, yet we are giddy and
grateful to feel recognition from the music community. We’ll see you out there on the road of endless possibilities.”
You Am I’s induction follows on from Missy Higgins being inducted at the 2024 ARIA Awards ceremony. Both artists featured in the recent Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs, as hosted by triple j, with their respective signature songs ‘Berlin Chair’ and ‘Scar’ each getting voted in. Prior to Higgins, Jet were the most recent inductees into the ARIA Hall Of Fame, with their induction taking place at the 2023 ARIA Awards ceremony. The last decade has also seen artists such as Tina Arena, Crowded House, Darryl Braithwaite, Human Nature and the late Archie Roach also inducted.
The band have been actively touring throughout 2025, with their Hi-Fi Daily Double Down tour taking place earlier this year and their Hi-Fi Way 30th anniversary regional tour picks up again later this week.
