Netflix has announced its animated Tomb Raider adaptation will be ending with its second season.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft premiered on Netflix in October 2024 and was renewed for a second season the same month. The adaptation, which sees Hayley Atwell voicing Lara Croft, is set in the same universe as the modern Tomb Raider: Survivor trilogy and follows on from the events of 2018’s Shadow Of The Tomb Raider.
The second season will hit the streamer on December 11 and, according to a report from Variety, will bring the story to an end. It was not announced that Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft would end with season two when it was first renewed.
The animated series divided the fanbase when it launched last year. The Legend of Lara Croft currently has an average audience score of just 33 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes and viewers don’t seem that upset by the cancellation on social media.
“Oh, good. I was worried Netflix might actually create a multi-season show that would be a draw for people to sign up,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Another show where they went against the IP it was based on. Glad to see it fail,” added a second. “I’ve never heard of this show before this cancellation announcement,” said another.

The report comes the day after Amazon Prime Video confirmed its live-action Tomb Raider show would start production early 2026 with Sophie Turner set to play Lara Croft.
“I am thrilled beyond measure to be playing Lara Croft,” said Turner. “She’s such an iconic character, who means so much to so many – and I am giving everything I’ve got. They’re massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina (Jolie) and Alicia (Vikander) with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe (Waller-Bridge) at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands. I can’t wait for you all to see what we have cooking.”
A release date has yet to be confirmed but, according to Prime Video boss Vernon Sanders, the series will “honour the beloved Tomb Raider legacy while delivering fresh adventures to fans worldwide.”
In other news, the full Skate soundtrack has been confirmed with more than 90 artists including Turnstile, Little Simz, Royel Otis, Wallows and Suki Waterhouse.
