Wednesday star Fred Armisen has confirmed that a spin-off about his character Uncle Fester is in the works.

The actor, comedian, musician and writer appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon earlier this week. He was asked about past reports of a new show centred around his character, Uncle Fester Addams.
“Yeah,” Armisen responded. “Yeah, we’re working on it. It’s fantastic… it’s amazing.” He went on to hail Wednesday director and executive producer Tim Burton as “amazing”, adding: “He’s great, great, great.”
Armisen did not give any further details about the spin-off, suggesting it is still in early development. You can watch the interview in full below.
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter this summer, Wednesday showrunner and co-creator Alfred Gough spoke about the possibility of a future spin-off. The publication noted that information about the project remained “top secret”.
“It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Gough explained. Netflix chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, added: “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”
Bloomberg reported in late 2023 that Netflix was in the early stages of creating a series about Uncle Fester, the paternal uncle of Wednesday (Jenna Ortega).
It was said at the time that Amazon MGM Studios – which owns the rights to The Addams Family, and produced the Wednesday series – was also on board. According to the report, the show was in early development with no script.
The final episodes of Wednesday season two landed on Netflix last week, with a third season having already been commissioned. It has been reported that the show could run for seven seasons in total.
In a four-star review of Wednesday season two, NME wrote: “A frantic mid-season finale sets things up for an explosive return in September, which will also see the arrival of Lady Gaga’s Rosaline Rotwood. Perhaps that next batch of episodes will take the beloved series to new places after part one sticks carefully to the familiar, if successful, formula.”
Lady Gaga made an appearance in season two as Rosaline Rotwood, but many fans were left disappointed by her limited screen time. The singer wrote a new song for the series, ‘The Dead Dance’, and released a spooky music video directed by Tim Burton.
Speaking at the season two premiere, Gaga explained (via Rolling Stone): “I had a wonderful time working on Wednesday season two, even just being a small part of the show. I loved working with Tim Burton and Jenna [Ortega], and everyone here, it’s so incredible. Thank you.”
