Phantastic Ferniture have continued their comeback with new material, marking their first since the release of their self-titled debut album in 2018. The Sydney-based indie rock band, fronted by Julia Jacklin, have two new tracks out now: ‘Change My Mind’ and ‘Dare To Fall In Love’. You can hear both, as well as find out details of their newly-announced December 2025 shows below.
The two new tracks sees the established trio – Jacklin, guitarist Elizabeth Hughes and drummer Ryan Brennan – expanded to a quartet, with bassist Harrison Fuller now also enlisted. The band self-produced the songs, and co-wrote them together – with additional co-writing on ‘Change My Mind’ by Thomas Capell. The band recorded at Golden Retriever Studios, located in Sydney’s inner west.

Following the release of Phantastic Ferniture in 2018, the band played a Christmas show before entering an extensive hiatus – in which Jacklin released her second solo album, Crushing. On that album’s tour, at the Enmore Theatre, Hughes and Brennan reunited to play a couple of Phantastic Ferniture songs – leading to speculation that the band was soon to reunite. Unfortunately, that show took place on March 12th, 2020 – a matter of days before Australia was locked down due to COVID.
In late October 2024, Phantastic Ferniture announced their reunion and the Fronds Forever tour, which took place in Bunbury, Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney across January and February of 2025. Shows in all cities sold out, with additional shows added in Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle. The band returned to the live arena this month, performing at Bloomfield Festival on the Shoalhaven River and at Brisbane Festival. In December, they will play three dates on what they’re billing the Dare To Fern In Love Tour; find out details for that below.
