Last October, it was announced that frontman Brendon Urie and the rest of Panic! At The Disco would be reuniting for a slot at When We Were Young Festival 2025.

At the time, it wasn’t clear which former members would be returning, but that the headline Vegas slot would be in celebration of the band’s 20th anniversary, and that they would perform their debut album ‘A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out’ in its entirety.

Last night (October 18), the first night of the festival kicked off, with Urie taking to the stage alongside his live band to play some of Panic!’s earliest hits.

As the show drew to a close, he surprised fans with Smith, telling the crowd, “I want to bring my oldest friend out on stage,” before playing their breakout hit ‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ to close the show.

It marks Smith’s first performance with the group since 2013, when he pulled out of tour dates in America after revealing that he was struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. He then officially left the band in 2016.

    ‘High Hopes’
‘I Write Sins Not Tragedies’ (with Spencer Smith)

They’ll play a second night at When We Were Young tonight (October 19).

The show marked a swift reunion for Panic! after their “final” show at the AO Arena in Manchester in March 2023, when the band performed the last stop of their ‘Viva Las Vengeance’ farewell tour.

Urie announced in January 2023 that he was ending the band after almost 20 years. He revealed that he and his wife Sarah Orzechowski were expecting their first child together, and said that he wanted to focus on his family.

After bringing their aforementioned ‘Viva Las Vengeance‘ tour to a close in Manchester, the singer addressed what was then-considered the end of the group by saying: “I’m overcome with gratitude. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. For the last 18 years, it’s truly been an experience that I’ll always be grateful for.”

Fall Out Boy‘s Pete Wentz also discussed the band’s break-up with NME, saying he had “a lot of respect” for Urie making the call. “I think that as far as Brendon wanting to live a more private life and be a dad, in that regard a new chapter for him has started, which I can really appreciate being a dad [myself],” he said.
