US singer-songwriter Ryan Adams has issued a public apology to his Australian fans, management, agents and crew following the controversial end of his Down Under tour.

It comes after the seven-time Grammy nominee went nuclear on Australia after a chaotic run of shows across the country and New Zealand, declaring us the “worst country ever” in a now-deleted Instagram rant.

“I just apologise to you all”

“You are the worst people and you know it,” Adams previously wrote. “Thank f*** never again.”

The meltdown capped off a rough few weeks on tour for the Heartbreaker singer, who reportedly stormed off stage multiple times during his Aussie shows, citing illness, “trolls,” iPhone flashes and, in one particularly awkward moment, a “bitter” onstage rant about ex-wife Mandy Moore.

In his new apology, Adams blamed illness, exhaustion and a previously undisclosed condition triggered by stage lights and camera flashes for the incidents. He wrote: “The LED camera flash … is, to me from stage, a pitch-black environment … what happens … is I have an ocular seizure … I panic and become disoriented.”

“I wanted so badly to bring down the house and I just apologise to you all,” he wrote. “I’m so very tired and sick and homesick and just very sorry.”

Adams also confirmed that his Australian and New Zealand appearances will likely be his final overseas shows, writing: “I might not see you again but I’ll keep making these records and books because I love it … and I love you.”

While the apology shifts the tone to an attempted reconciliation, fan reactions remain mixed – some accepting of his explanation, others still disappointed.
