Dellwood Explores Shadow and Solitude On New Single ‘The Animals’

Dellwood, the project of Minneapolis-based artist and producer Chris Bartels, shares his brand new single The Animals, a dark, autumnal indie-folk anthem.

The title track of his new album, out now via Anthem Falls, The Animals finds Dellwood step further into darker, more mysterious territory, gifting us with a brooding folk song that feels both intimate and otherworldly. I am loving the layered, spectral vocals and how they enhance the song’s warmth and haunting touch, gliding effortlessly over the gentle acoustic guitar progression, subtle piano keys, cool rhythms and experimental textures.

The Animals is a dark, introspective piece about surrendering to instinct, exploring primal emotion, loss, and transformation through haunting, poetic imagery. It’s a meditation on longing and self-searching, on being caught in a mental maze but trusting the wrestle will find purpose. The whole atmosphere of the song is quite warm, with touches of nostalgia and melancholia that are effortlessly carried by the cinematic soundscapes, creating a memorable and enthralling listening experience that keeps me coming back to it over and over again!

Speaking about the song, Dellwood said,

The Animals felt like a personal paradox. I wanted to capture the feeling of being lost in doubt while still grounded in something familiar. It’s vulnerable and cryptic, but also strangely hopeful.
