Gold Coast groove-wielders Bootleg Rascal have levelled up – unveiling their bold and blissed-out self-titled fourth album, Bootleg Rascal, alongside the slick new single ‘Reasons’.
It’s been six years since the band’s last full-length (Anonimo), and this new record feels like a celebration of every sweaty gig, late-night idea and chaos-fuelled tour moment that’s shaped them since 2012. Across 11 tracks, the duo dives into life, fatherhood and the beautiful mess of being human – all wrapped in their signature cocktail of alt-rock rhythm, soul-kissed hip hop and cinematic sunshine.

Guitarist Jimmy Young says making the album felt like everything had led to this moment: “All the gigs we’ve played all around the world, all the songs we’ve written… It’s the first proper full-length album of new songs since 2018,” he explains.
“If you’ve ever had fun at a show or enjoyed our music, you’ll love this record. That’s why it’s self-titled – if this is it, I can die a happy man.”
Produced by long-time collaborator Caleb Tasker (The Terrys, Rum Jungle) and mixed by Ian Pritchett (Angus & Julia Stone, Boo Seeka), the record swings from the swaggering ‘Drip Your Love’ (feat. Zaya) to the surf-hazy pulse of ‘Oti’ (feat. Danté Knows), the emotional swell of ‘Street Shark’, and the woozy, dub-tinged closer ‘Crying For The Weekend’.
Bootleg Rascal are celebrating the release with a run of Australian shows, headlining everything from sweaty club parties to the Dunedin Beer Festival – plus a hometown launch at Bootleggers, Newtown on Friday October 31.
With worldwide tours, millions of streams and love from triple j, NME, Rolling Stone, Spotify and Apple Music already in their back pocket, Bootleg Rascal feels like both a victory lap and a fresh start.
