‘Call Of Duty’ fans worried about “uninspiring” movie adaptation

The upcoming Call Of Duty live-action adaptation has got its writer and director but fans are already worried about an “uninspiring” film.

Announced last month, the Call Of Duty movie adaptation is being developed by Activision and Paramount. According to a joint statement, the live-action feature film is “designed to thrill its massive global fan base by delivering on the hallmarks of what fans love about the iconic series” but will also “expand the franchise to entirely new audiences.”

“Both companies are committed to honouring the brand’s rich narrative and distinctive style, promising an authentic and exciting experience for longtime fans and newcomers alike,” the statement continued.

Paramount boss David Ellison went on to name drop three of the most-popular Call Of Duty franchises (Modern Warfare, Black Ops and the original) before comparing the film to Top Gun: Maverick. “I can promise that we are resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honours the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand,” he added.

Last night, it was confirmed that the Call Of Duty movie will be directed by Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Hancock, Battleship) with a script written by Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan (via Deadline). The pair have previously worked together on 2016 western thriller Hell Or High Water and 2017’s crime thriller Wind River.

However some fans aren’t impressed by the news. “Peter Berg is a logical but uninspiring choice,” said one fan. “Oh man, you know he’s gonna get Mark Wahlberg as the lead,” wrote another, with Wahlberg appearing in almost every Berg project since 2013. “Berg and Sheridan aren’t the worst options but Berg’s directing style has been very meh to me for years now,” added a third.

“One of the things that I find weird about a COD movie is that they take heavily from other war movies, which is part of the appeal: that you’re playing the movies. I’m not really sure how you pull this off without feeling derivative,” added another fan.

Last month it was revealed that Steven Spielberg had pitched a Call Of Duty movie adaptation to Activision but was turned down because he wanted full creative control.

In other news, The Simpsons is heading to Fortnite for a new, limited-time event that will launch after the conclusion of ‘Fortnitemares 2025’.
