The relationship between Britney Spears and her children is on the mend, according to her ex Kevin Federline. The professional dancer opened up about his side of the story on what has happened with the “Toxic” singer while on the Talk Shop Live podcast on Monday, November 10, as he promotes his new memoir “You Thought You Knew.” He says that a part of the reason he has released the book now is because his sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, are old enough to work out the truth, beyond the tabloids, rumors, and speculation about Britney Spears and her personal life.
Britney Spears’ sons want to “mend a bond” with their mother
Federline, who was married to Britney Spears from 2004 to 2007, shared that while he has not “talked specifically” with the singer since the release of the book, he says “she’s talked to our sons, which is good.” Spears posted a picture of her reuniting with Jayden on Instagram in June.
“They absolutely love their mom, right?” he continued. “It’s instilled in them. And I’ve always wanted for them to have a connection with their mom, the way I have with my mom.”
He supports Sean and Jayden “trying to find a way to mend a bond between their mom” after what he describes as their tumultuous childhood with Spears.
In the memoir, the 47-year-old father recounts several incidents where their sons would “awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ’Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand.”
In the effort of his sons mending their relationship with their mom, Federline believes that while “people think that this book hurts that situation,” he says that “we’ve done everything else.”
“If I have to the bad guy and everybody has to hate me, well, so be it,” he admitted. “I’ll do that for my kids to be able to have a relationship with their mother.”
He adds that the road toward healing the rift between them is going to be “difficult” and that “it’s gonna take time.”
In response to the release of Federline’s book, a representative for Spears said in October that he was “profiting off her again” and “it comes after child support has ended with Kevin.”
