A lushly inviting blend of folk and pop enamors on “Hidden Springs,” the lovely new single from Copenhagen-based singer-songwriter Kirsten Hildegard. The track, co-written with Danish-Norwegian producer Opie (Asbjørn Thesbjerg Larsen) and Norwegian songwriter Jannike Klemmetsen, plays as a commemoration of Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard; its November 11th release coincided with the 170th anniversary of his death.
“Kierkegaard believed love is unfathomable — we can’t look directly at the source, just as we can’t stare into the sun, but we can learn to trust its presence,” Hildegard says. The track was written at Nordic Songcamping in August 2025, at Vogts Villa on the island of Dvergsøya in Kristiansand, Norway — and its songwriting process coincided with Hildegard feeling the type of love and gratitude that Kierkegaard described:
“I felt a deep sense of gratitude and the kind of love Kierkegaard describes as agape or a self-giving “love of neighbour”. I came into the session wanting to express that love, and Hidden Springs became my way of inviting listeners to lean into that hidden current that carries us all.”
Calming acoustics and responsive “it don’t matter” vocal backings bolster a vocal lead that consumes in its depictions of looming clouds and potential darkness. The “dance your way through it, let your smile guide…” segment continues the encouraging enthrallment, with the titular location playing like a place of serenity, where one can relax and embrace the beauty within life. “Hidden Springs” is a wholly memorable showing, abundant in quality songwriting, from Kirsten Hildegard.
