My Bloody Valentine kicked off their first tour in seven years in Dublin last night (November 22) and dedicated the show to late Stone Roses and Primal Scream bassist Mani.

The band, who performed a secret warm up show in the city earlier this week, kickstarted their UK and Ireland tour at the 3Arena for the first non-festival show in their home country since 1992.

These shows mark My Bloody Valentine’s first official live performances since they last toured North America in 2018. They also mark their first UK headline tour in over 10 years.

During the show, there were rare outings for ‘Who Sees You’ and ‘Wonder 2’, footage of which you can view below.

During the show, frontman Kevin Shields, who previously collaborated and was a live touring member of Primal Scream from 1998-2006, also paid tribute to his late former bandmate Mani.

“We’ve kind of dedicated this show Mani,” he said at one point during the concert. At the end of the concert, The Stone Roses classic ‘Waterfall’ played out as the band left the stage and fans left the venue.

News of Mani’s passing at the age of 63 was shared earlier this week by his brother Greg, who wrote on social media: “IT IS WITH THE HEAVIEST OF HEARTS THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE THE SAD PASSING OF MY BROTHER GARY MANI MOUNFIELD. RIP RKID.”

Mani, real name Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield, originally found fame as bassist for The Stone Roses, joining in 1987 and playing on both their iconic albums, until they first disbanded in 1996. He then went on to join Primal Scream and stayed with them until 2011, when The Stone Roses reformed.

His former band paid tribute to Mani at their Manchester Warehouse Project show last night by dedicating ‘I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have’ to the late bassist. Primal Scream also brought up a huge backdrop of him, which current bassist Simone Butler shared on her Instagram page.

It comes after Oasis and Richard Ashcroft also both honoured Mani during their respective performances in Brazil last night.

The latter dedicated The Verve classic ‘Bittersweet Symphony’ to him while the former honoured Mani on ‘Live Forever’.

MBV meanwhile, will continue their tour tomorrow (November 24) at Manchester’s Aviva Studios before calling London’s Wembley Arena and Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.
