Ruel is back with an ~infectious~ new banger. The Australian pop prodigy has just dropped ‘I Can Die Now’, a dizzying, high-energy pop rush that marks the first official single from his upcoming sophomore album, due later this year.

Co-written with a team of pop heavyweights including Julian Bunetta (Sabrina Carpenter, 1D), Ammo (Beyoncé, Britney), and JKash (Dua Lipa, Charlie Puth), ‘I Can Die Now’ channels the ecstatic chaos of new love into a punchy three-minute anthem that’s equal parts cheeky and cathartic.

Ruel – ‘I Can Die Now’

Prior to the release, Ruel debuted the song live during his Red Bull Symphonic shows in Sydney back in May.

“I’ve been waiting for what seems like forever to get ‘I Can Die Now’ out,” the popstar shared in a press statement. “I love the juxtaposition between the title and the theme and energy of the song – once you listen to it, you’ll know what I mean. On top of that, ICDN is the first taste of what my new album might be like…”

And the drama doesn’t stop at the music. The track also comes with its own fictional syndrome: ICDN — Intense Conditional Desire Neurosis, a playful spin on love-sickness brought to life in the surreal music video, out this Monday, 21st July.

Directed by the dream team sweetiepie (Gracie Abrams, Lizzy McAlpine), the clip apparently follows a semi-conscious Ruel stuck in hospital and spiralling in lust-fuelled hallucinations. It’ll make its broadcast debut on MTV Live and even hit the Times Square billboards.

2024 has been a ride for Ruel — with the release of his Adaptations EP, a breakout debut at Lollapalooza Chicago, and now the start of a whole new chapter. Having recently moved to LA and signed with Giant Music / Virgin Music, he’s tapping into a new creative frequency — and ‘I Can Die Now’ is the first hint of what’s coming.

Take it for a spin up above.
