In a memo to Warner’s UK employees Garvey says she is “excited by the prospect of taking on new challenges” and “believes that this is the right decision for me and for…
Hawaiian singer-songwriter HIRIE brings island soul and Cali-reggae fire together in her latest gem Guiding Star. Taken from her new album Phases, out now on Easy Star Records, Guiding Star finds the Filipino-born, Italian-raised, Oahu-based musician at her most tender, gifting us with a sombre, soul-baring reflection on parenthood, love, and the ache of letting go. I am loving the tone of her voice and how heartfelt and soulful her vocal delivery is, gliding beautifully over the reggae-infused instrumentation. In this song she captures the quiet courage it takes to watch a child grow and become their own light. A message…
BMG is the latest music publisher to agree a direct licensing deal with Spotify covering the streaming of its Anglo-American repertoire in the US market, and circumventing the compulsory licence administered by collecting society The MLC. Which sounds lovely. It’s always nice to have shared interests, after all. Of course BMG, like the majors and Kobalt before it, entered into direct licensing talks with Spotify after the streaming service started exploiting…

Kneecap’s manager has claimed that the outrage that followed the band’s performance at Coachella earlier this year was prompted by one pro-Israel organisation within the US entertainment industry called Creative Community For Peace. Although the rap trio had courted controversy before, it was their outspoken support for Palestine and criticism of Israel on stage at Coachella that made them global headline news. That really put the band in the spotlight, boosting their profile and commercial success, but also galvanising critics to call for their shows to be cancelled and their visas to be revoked. The band’s manager Daniel Lambert, who also works…
