For Those I Love has shared a new single titled ‘Mirror’ – you can listen to it below.
The angry and politically-charged track is the latest preview of the Dublin artist’s second album ‘Carving The Stone’, which is due for release on August 8 via September Recordings (pre-order here).
The musician and producer (real name David Balfe) described the song as “a retelling of an experience from years ago, a pretty tense look around at the present, and a very genuine attempt at nuance while finding a thread that brings it all together, all while trying to hold the mirror up to myself”.
He added: “It’s a nervy one, but one I needed to do.”
A press release notes that ‘Mirror’ is For Those I Love’s “most propulsive song to date”, with the hard-hitting single being driven forward by thumping drums.
Balfe recalls almost being stabbed as a crime of lesser proportions than everyday class war: “See I’ve been knifed alive by mine, but wined and dined by those on high became the bigger crime to me, if I’m going to bleed then make me bleed with a blade I can see.”

For Those I Love made his debut appearance at Glastonbury Festival last month, where he also joined Overmono to close out the West Holts stage.

‘Mirror’ follows on from For Those I Love’s previous singles ‘Of The Sorrows’ and ‘No Scheme’.
His 2021 self-titled debut album earned a glowing five-star review from NME, which called it an “immaculate” project that “turns loss into hope”.
It added: “The Dublin artist and producer takes the loss of his best friend, teenage memories and ravey sounds to celebrate love, light and togetherness.”
The record also came in at Number 11 on NME’s 50 best albums of 2021 list.
