Billy Bragg has mocked Nigel Farage for his hopes of becoming the UK Prime Minister.
The singer-songwriter voiced his stance during an appearance on BBC Question Time, where he clashed with the Reform UK leader’s deputy.
In the television appearance, Bragg took aim at Farage over the comments he made earlier this week relating to both autism and the Sharia Law in the UK.
As highlighted by Huffington Post, just days before Bragg’s slot on Question Time, Farage had done an interview with LBC where he refused to distance himself from claims made by Donald Trump that taking paracetamol during pregnancy can lead to the child developing autism.
There is no evidence for the claims, yet when asked about the comments, Farage did not dismiss them, saying that he could not do so as he was not a scientific expert.
That being said, that same interview saw the Reform party leader claim that he thought Sharia Law was being introduced to the UK. This, he said, he believed as he had been told so by a taxi driver.

Speaking about Farage’s comments on LBC, Bragg said: “After giving the impression he doesn’t trust scientists, he later said when he was asked if he believed that Sharia Law was coming to Britain… he said he’d been told by a taxi driver.”
He added: “So he was willing to believe a Muslim taxi driver in Buckinghamshire rather than believe the scientific establishment. This guy wants to be Prime Minister? You must be joking.”
The live audience for Question Time applauded the musician’s comments, and in retaliation, Reform deputy leader Richard Tice shared that there “are over 80 Sharia courts in the United Kingdom”.
“Are you aware of that?” he asked Bragg, to which the singer replied: “Yeah I am, but there are also Jewish courts, and that is part of their religion. We, as a tolerant nation, accept that.
“To demonise, particularly the Muslims, this is the sort of thing why we worry about Reform.”

This is far from the first time that Bragg has gotten involved in politics over the years. Last summer he put forward a“radical” way to “kick the Tories into third place” at 2024 UK General Election, and then criticised Rishi Sunak and his Tory government for their comments against the trans community.
In 2025 alone, Bragg has shared a new single called ‘Hundred Year Hunger’, in which he expresses his solidarity with the people of Palestine, and shared his backing for Kneecap amid one of the members being charged with a terror offence for their on-stage comments.
Earlier this month, he shared his backing for a London protest against Donald Trump’s UK visit.
“Donald Trump’s visit to the UK this week is a moment of national humiliation,” he wrote. “He will regard the red carpet rolled out for him as an act of fealty that gives him the right to punish the UK should we do anything that displeases him.”
“Sucking up to bullies never pays off. They sense weakness and revel in exploiting it,” Bragg added. “This Wednesday, we have a chance to show not just that Trump is not welcome, but also that we reject the Trumpification of UK politics.
